Life Drawing Studio 11:00am - 2:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

Life Drawing, also referred to as Figure Drawing, is the best and quickest way to improve your drawing skills and your visual perception. Life drawing trains your eye to catch things that photos do not show. Therefore learning to master figure drawing is more than bones and muscles, it is about the subtle differences and minor details such as weight-bearing and positioning that translates to all forms.

We are excited to be able to bring this opportunity to all artists through our new Life Drawing Studio at Bailey Contemporary Arts in the City of Pompano Beach.

During this 2-hour session, live models pose draped for short "gesture" as well as longer poses. This program is ideal for individuals interested in portrait painting, character design, illustration, animation, anatomical drawing, however ALL artists benefit from Life Drawing sessions.

Artists are invited to bring their own materials and supplies.

This activity doesn’t provide formal instruction; participants work at their own pace and in their preferred medium.

Space available for 6 participants per session, so register early!

Join us for a new kind of combo! A Taste of Jazz at Bailey Contemporary Arts will feature entertaining and educational encounters with the musical genre, accompanied by wine tastings. The June 6th event will focus on the Influences for Jazz – How has the Afro Cuban music and culture influenced jazz? Join Martin Hand and the trio as they explore the culture and rhythms of the music of Cuba, Brazil and beyond and its intersection with jazz from the 1940s and forward.

The Gold Coast Jazz Society has been a major presenter of jazz concerts, jazz education and jazz outreach programs in Broward County since 1992. They have maintained and preserved the heritage of jazz by presenting the music celebrating jazz's evolution over the past 100 years

Grey Matter Exhibition Opening Reception 6:00pm - 10:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

This solo-exhibition in BaCA’s west gallery features recent work by BaCA's Artist-in-Residence Susan Clifton. Susan is originally from Philadelphia and went to the Philadelphia College of Art. From there, she moved to NYC where she worked for many years in advertising as an Art Director. She is currently living in Pompano Beach, Florida. Her works are mostly Mixed Media, Fabric Mosaics. Her latest series, “Grey Matter,” changes the face of figurative art. This high-energy series of graphics, colors, and words paint us the whole picture of the self we strive to become. We’re inspired by each figure’s thought process that deepens our visual experience with a lasting imprint on our psyches.

Fabric Covered Mini-journal 11:00am - 3:00pm | Bailey Contemporary Arts, 41 NE 1st Street

Embark on a journey…. Real or imagined with your own extraordinary fabric covered journal. A small, personal stamp will be designed, carved and then printed on fabric for the book cover. Pages will be created using a variety of design techniques, including stenciling, stamping, and painting. A selection of threads and other embellishments can be used to make each journal truly unique. Along with the journal, participants will also leave with their hand-carved stamp to use on future projects.

About the Instructor
Fiber artist Andrea Huffman received a Master’s degree in Art Education from Florida International University and taught art in Broward Public Schools for over 30 years. She has exhibited her art throughout Florida and nationally, receiving numerous awards and recognitions, including several grants and a Residency at the prestigious Hermitage Artist Retreat in Englewood, Florida. Although Ms. Huffman has retired from teaching in the public school system, she continues to share her passion for art teaching classes and workshops in fiber art and mixed media at various art venues and guilds throughout Florida.

Make a fashion statement at the farmers market or beach with your own original fabric tote bag. This even is taught by Artist in Residence, Andrea Huffman. Each participant will design a large canvas zipper tote bag using various fabric paints, photo transfers, stamps and stencils. A hand carved stamp will be created to print on the bag that can also be used for future projects. A variety of techniques will offer a wide range of options to create a functional work of art!
